5 Scripture Verses to Pray When Waiting for Your Spouse

Here’s the thing:

When the time is right, you desire or expect to find your spouse or be found by your spouse.

Personally, I nursed the thought of getting married since I clocked eight. Too early for a child? Well, that’s me right there.

The desire to be married so as to share intimacy with another for a lifetime isn’t strange or out of place. You and I were wired that way by our Heavenly Father.

Let’s backup a bit to an old story:

After the Lord God placed man in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and guard it, He reasoned it wasn’t good for man to be alone. So, God made a suitable helper for the man. At his first sight of her, Adam transformed into a romantic poet, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man”. (Genesis 2:23)

In my sanctified imagination, I see Eve giggling and blushing at the first words of pure love gracing her ears.

No doubt a French kiss followed after. Now, you’ll agree with me the hype about getting married was installed originally in us by God.

Besides this default setting, others desire to find a spouse or be found by a spouse because they need someone:

• to grow old with,

• to invest time, resources, emotions and bodies with,

• with whom to be vulnerable without fear of being shut out, rejected or caved in,

• with whom to be real with,

• with whom to be committed to in spite of life’s strain and stress,

• with whom to pen a love story seasoned with respect, understanding,

communication, care, attention and service,

• with whom to fulfill purpose together,And more.

Want to know the brutal truth?

Waiting for a spouse can be tormenting especially if the wait takes donkey years.

With concerned family members and friends mounting marital pressure, you may be forced to think you’re under a curse. This school of thought keeps several people awake through the night.

But here is the catch:

You must settle in your heart the reason you expect to be found by someone or find your spouse.

In this post, I share Scriptures you can pray to keep your sanity in place when waiting for your man or woman. You will learn how to convert these Scriptures into prayer prompts. Please, ensure you keep them in your heart and your lips.

Let’s dive in:

#1. Luke 1:45, “Blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.”

Heavenly Father, I thank You for reassuring me in the fullness of time, I will get married. I thank You for Your promise deposited within my spirit. According to Your Word, I will not lack my mate. I will not lack my suitable helper in this life.I refuse to settle for less than Your best for me. I refuse to seek a companion in the land of the heathen, for what connection has light with darkness? I trust You to create avenues or opportunities to make our paths cross for good.Your word is powerful to accomplish the reason it was sent. I believe, therefore I know there shall be a performance of Your promises in my life.I thank You Father for testimonies abound in Jesus’ name. Amen.

#2. Romans 15:13, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the hope that saturates my being during my season of waiting. I am neither desolate nor discouraged. I cast out the spirit of depression and self-pity trying to take hold of my senses and emotions. I have a sound mind for God has not given me the spirit of fear. I have the mind of Christ. I am disciplined in my thoughts.Mourning is far from me. I am full of joy and peace of the Holy Ghost. I enjoy my waiting season by the strength of God’s Spirit in my inner man. My end is glorious. My marriage is a success already. My wedding day is a success already. My husband is blessed. My wife is blessed.I believe and receive the best You have in store for me. And just as Sarah judged You faithful, I judge You faithful, as well. I abound in hope by the power of Your Holy Spirit. My faith will not fail.Victory is mine in Jesus’ name. Amen.

#3. Romans 8:32, “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him freely give us all things?”

Heavenly Father, I thank You for being here for me. Thank You because no curse is upon my life. I am blessed beyond a curse. I am too blessed to be cursed. Since You are for me, circumstances can never be against me. The lines are fallen for me in pleasant places. I have a goodly heritage. My waiting season is in my favour because Your word says all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.Lord, I am called according to Your purpose, therefore my wait is not in vain. If You deemed it fit to send Your Son to redeem me from the claws of sin and death, then You are able to give me along with Him, a godly spouse, freely. Therefore I receive my Godly spouse to the end we bear godly seeds upon the face of the earth for Your glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.

#4. Ephesians 1:17-18, “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints”.

Heavenly Father, I ask for the spirit of wisdom and revelation to know and recognise my spouse when he or she shows up. Help me not to be led by physical realities and miss the reason You sent him or her my way. Help me see beyond my nose.I receive seeing eyes and an understanding heart. I am sensitive to the moment when my wait is over. I recognise my man or woman. I am not blind to answered prayers made flesh. I do not despise God’s best for me.I receive clarity in this season. My spiritual perception is clear. I am humble and not proud. My will is synced with Your will, O God.I do not make mistakes in Jesus’ name. Amen.

#5. Ephesians 2:19, “Now, therefore you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”

Heavenly Father, I thank You because my spouse is born again by Your Spirit and the incorruptible Word of God that lives and abides for evermore. My spouse is not a stranger or foreigner to God. He or she is a fellow citizen with the saints and member of Your household. My spouse is sold out to Christ and the things of the kingdom.Your heartbeat is my spouse’s priority. He or she has zeal for Your desires according to knowledge. He or she understands the principles of tithing and kingdom advancement. He or she understands her place and authority in Christ. My spouse is filled with the Spirit of wisdom and understanding to run and keep our home. In spite of our differences, we’ll groom our children in the way of the Lord.My spouse and I function as God’s ambassador on earth in Jesus’ name. Amen.

You can do this:You can pray these Scriptures in your own words. And cement it praying in the Holy Ghost.

Yes you can.

Explore the wealth of other Bible Translations and call on God with His very words.

In another news, I found a new translation that spices my Bible Study. It’s the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB). If the You Version app is installed on your mobile device, you can check it out.You can search for other Scriptures to add to the list.

The Bible is a hotbed of prayer prompts. This will wade off desperation and unbelief from your life.

Find what God says about marriage and answered prayers. Cleave to them.

At some point, I guarantee you’ll think your prayers are a waste of time. I guarantee you’ll see friends you may have counselled get married while no one shows up for you.

Such is the path of faith.

But never give up on God. The best things of life are not offered on the platter of gold.

You need to go through the process to accommodate God’s best for you.

During your wait, compassion and character will be formed in you.

Keep praying. Keep trusting.

Your wedding day is closer than you think.
Congratulations in advance.

Which other Scriptures would you add to the prayer list?
