Natalie Grant’s Clean, Lyrics and Video

Sometime in September; around 4:30pm.

I barely set my bag down after a busy day at work when my mind coursed to my phone.

Taking it out my bag, I clicked Whatsapp.

A message from my Pastor delivered, “Hello Faith”.

“Good evening, Pastor Sir”.

“Good evening, Faith.” He forwarded a graphic video with lyrics.

Immediately, I downloaded it.

The conversation continued, “How do you deal with shame?”

I considered the question in a split second. “I shut myself in, bury my head in books that reminds me of my worth until I am bold to face the world again.”

“Okay. I wanted to engage your mind; in respect of the song I sent to you.”

“I’m yet to listen to it, Pastor Sir”.

“Do so now”.

I did as instructed and sent my response.

“When shame takes over my world, my sight is blurred and distorted; that’s why I see shattered and broken. But God sees me differently- whole and beautiful. If I can see as He sees, I will acknowledge He’s restoring me piece by piece.”

By privilege, I have led the verses of this song twice in local assembly where I worship during communion services. Countless times, I’ve sang it my home because of how much it has blessed me.

Natalie Grant, a song writer released this amazing piece in November, 2015. Three years after, listening to its powerful, heart gripping lyrics warms my heart and moistens my eyes.

Now, enjoy Clean lyrics:

(Verse 1)

I see shattered

You see whole

I see broken

But You see beautiful

And You’re helping me

To believe

Piece by piece

(Chorus)

There’s nothing too dirty

That You can’t make worthy

You wash me in mercy

I am clean

There’s nothing too dirty

That You can’t make worthy

You wash me in mercy

I am clean

(Verse 2)

What was dead now

Lives again

My heart’s beating

Beating inside my chest

Oh I’m coming alive

With joy and destiny

Oh! ‘Cause You’re restoring me

Piece by piece

(Chorus)

There’s nothing too dirty

That You can’t make worthy

You wash me in mercy

I am clean, oh yeah

There’s nothing too dirty

That You can’t make worthy

You wash me in mercy

I am clean

(Bridge)

Washed in the blood of Your sacrifice

Your blood flowed red

And made me white

My dirty rags are purified

I am clean, oh yeah

Washed in the blood of Your sacrifice

Your blood flowed red

And made me white

My dirty rags are purified

I am clean, I am clean, oh

Washed in the blood of Your sacrifice

Your blood flowed red

And made me white

My dirty rags are purified

I am clean

(Outro)

I am clean

I am clean

Oh You made me

You washed me clean

Oh You made me, You made me

Clean

Conclusion

It could be that you have carried a secret from your past for many years. It may be too dark to think about or too dirty to utter.

Just something you did to someone or someone did to you.

Shame beclouds you and you can’t shake off the feelings of unworthiness.

Dear one, you are not alone. Come out of hiding. God is for you and not against you.

Isaiah 1:18 says,

“Come. Sit down. Let’s argue this out.” This is God’s Message: If your sins are blood-red, they’ll be snow-white. If they’re red like crimson, they’ll be like wool.”

Jesus Christ will surely restore you piece by piece because He has made you clean.
